The Chu-Araho Chasen is a specialized bamboo matcha whisk with approximately 48 tines, designed for preparing thick, rich matcha (koicha). Its robust construction makes it ideal for blending the denser consistency of koicha, and also makes it exceptionally suited for creating luxurious matcha lattes.

Understanding Chasen Tine Count:

• Generally, chasens with a higher tine count are easier to use for thinner matcha (usucha), but the tines are more delicate.
• Chasen names reflect the number of tines. Common types include:
  • Tsuneho (常穂): Approximately 60 tines.
  • Kazuho (数穂): Approximately 70-80 tines.
  • Araho(荒穂): less than 50 tines.

Chasen Reshaping and Care:

• Bamboo naturally tends to straighten. Using a chasen shaper (chasen kusenaoshi) helps maintain the beautiful shape of your chasen after use.
• The Chasen shaper will also help to keep moisture from accumulating at the base of the tines, preventing mold and prolonging the life of your chasen.
